A hunter should know how the world is illuminated.
2021
Georgina Barney and I last collaborated on The Museum of Contemporary Farming for The MERL in 2018. This new work involved an ongoing creative conversation and postal project. We began when I created a photo based work in response to her gift of 10 oil paints [Georgina naturally procures, distills and cultivates the pigments]. I replied by sending her a collection of small, saved by my father, oak blocks. Georgina painted these creating colourful building blocks for her 4 year old daughter. My drawing of one of Scout’s constructions was shared alongside the blocks and paint making equipment in a small exhibition in ‘Dom’ House Gallery. During the opening we invited people to play with the blocks. Photographs of their built ‘architectures’ completes the work.
The 10 oils paints were made using:
Advocado
Woad
Onion Skins
Black Hollyhock
Gyspywort
Apple
Acorn Flour
Woad Seeds
Woad and Iron
Weld
