Hide and Hook
2012
Hide and Hook was commissioned for the Force of Nature exhibition at Millennium Galleries, Sheffield. The show brought together a host of historical and contemporary work, using the evolution of John Ruskin’s ideas on how to best capture the truth and examine how artists have adopted different approaches to portray the landscape.
Hide shows the skin of a bullock, stripped after slaughter. The bill hook was my granddad’s hedging tool. Both items aimed to reveal the violent yet beautiful truth at the heart of farming.
