Made by Hands comprises of 7 flags – made from waste cotton and designed following a Bauhaus ‘contrast and harmony exercise’, which encourages an arrangement to generate maximum contrast or harmony.
The flags were flown in 2020 for the South Explorer Special Festival in Charlois, Rotterdam on the radical artist organisation B.A.D foundation studio complex and on an ex-manufacturing building.
The work was was heavily influenced by the etymology of the word Manufacture = Made by Hands and the efforts of women migrants I saw at a fabric recyclers on the Rotterdam Docks.
